Insurance - The Right One For You

How do I know the state has a good Senior Health Insurance plan?

Insurance rating services rate the financial stability of an insurance company. This is important information because you want a company who provides senior health insurance that will be around when you need to collect benefits from a policy, possibly many years into the future.

Medicare is a senior health insurance program for people 65 years of age or older. And for people under 65 who have received social security for over 24 consecutive months.

The federal government has set up a full service advisory program primarily run individually in each state. Remember, these services do not rate senior health insurance policies or plans. They rate the financial stability of an insurance company.

There is no resource that "rates" all senior health insurance plans sold in each state. SHIIP counselors can help you understand and compare plans but will not make recommendations.

Many companies have high ratings. To find rating information, review marketing materials, ask an agent or contact a company. Although ratings are published, the Internet is the best source of the most current information on senior health insurance.
